TO HAVE AND TO HOLD (MAROON)
Taken from an excerpt declared by the husband and wife-to-be, during the marriage vows in the matrimonial rite. This statement completely gives actuality to what the apostle Paul describes as– the unifying characteristics of love to the Colossians: “and over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity” (3:14). “To have and to hold” means each of the couple understands they are gift to one another, given by the Giver himself to “have” and to be part of them and their life. In this divine proprietorship comes the responsibility to “hold” on and into each other’s hands—sharing both the delights and burdens of married life, and together, towards a holy married life.
