There is a call to less self-indulgent living. The apostle Paul pertained to simplicity as “contentment”, the willingness not to clamor for more for the express purpose of trying to add more happiness and joy, which is often found in luxury and temporal things, hence only resulting to happiness that is fleeting and short. The vow of simplicity calls us to seek enough while avoiding the dangers of too little and too much. Taking this way of life we find ourselves learning the virtue of gratefulness and understanding the needs of the poor by giving ourselves
The extraordinary vows of chastity, poverty (simplicity) and obedience are often referred to as the religious vows or evangelical counsels (CCC 925-927), which are taken by men and women who consecrates their life to God or in a process called profession. Seemingly, all are called to consecrate one’s life to our Father to live a life of holiness, regardless of a rite or ceremony. These vows should be roots of our personal commitment to a relationship with the Lord.
